Sinopse: Lu Tien-Kang, o instrutor de artes marciais no palácio de um senhor feudal e tem a fama de ser o "O Número Um dos Espadachins" em seu tempo. É totalmente desconhecido por todos, já que ninguém foi capaz de ver seu rosto que esta sempre encoberto por uma espécie de véu preso ao seu enorme chapéu. Uma noite, um jovem espadachim chega ao palácio, com sua bela namorada e desafia Lu Tien-Kang para um duelo, mas acaba morrendo sob a espada de Lu e partilha o mesmo destino que muitos outros que ousaram desafiá-lo antes. De luto, a namorada do jovem espadachim se mata com sua própria espada. Esta cena trágica é testemunhada por um jovem escondido em cima de uma árvore que então jura pra si mesmo que quando crescer vai derrotar Lu Tien-Kang e se tornará "O Número Um dos Espadachins".
