Beethoven 4 é uma espécie de versão canina do clássico O Príncipe e o Mendigo. Sempre faminto, estabanado, desastrado e babão, Beethoven está a ponto de ser expulso da casa da família Newton, onde só apronta confusões. Perto dali, outro São Bernardo, chamado Michelangelo, é o exato oposto de Beethoven. Michelangelo é um cão milionário, educadíssimo, super bem treinado, chegando ao extremo de limpar os pés antes de entrar em casa.
