Sinopse: Adaptação do livro clássico "Grande Sertão: Veredas", de João Guimarães Rosa. Riobaldo, afilhado de fazendeiro, vai dar aulas a Zé Rebelo que é chefe de um bando armado contratado pelo governo para acabar com os jagunços do sertão. Neste grupo, Riobaldo toma conhecimento da justiça própria do sertão. Quando Riobaldo resolve se afastar desse "mundo", conhece Diadorim, um membro do bando de Joca Ramiro, jagunço conhecido por sua justiça. Na travessia do Planalto Central, Joca Ramiro é assassinado por Hermógenes, traidor de seu próprio grupo. A todo custo Diadorim quer vingar a morte de seu chefe. (Cinemateca Brasileira)
