Após dois mandatos, Monroe "Eagle" Cole (Gene Hackman), o presidente dos Estados Unidos com maior índice de aceitação (85%), resolveu se aposentar da vida pública, só planejando quanto vai ganhar em cada discurso ou qual editor lhe pagará mais pela sua biografia. Durante sua gestão Monroe se divorciou de Charlotte (Christine Baranski), que ficou com sua casa em Baltimore. Assim ele decide se mudar para a pequena cidade de Mooseport, no Maine. Sua chegada é motivo de uma grande festa e, como após 24 anos o prefeito local morreu repentinamente, as autoridades do município o convidam para ser o prefeito. Cole aceita, mas um simples e honesto cidadão, Handy Harrison (Ray Romano), dono de uma loja de materiais de construção, resolve também concorrer, pois Cole sem saber convidara Sally Mannis (Maura Tierney), a noiva de Handy, para jantar. Desta forma o que era para ser uma eleição com um só candidato se torna uma disputa, onde cada voto pode fazer a diferença.

Hannibal and Jerry

Hannibal is a nice and polite boy, but Father and Mother think he hangs too much in front of the television. They therefore give him the dog Jerry, whom he is very pleased with. It turns out that Jerry, as the dog is called, is not an ordinary dog, because it can not bark, but on the other hand it can speak. The crafty toy maker Uncle Grandfather and his henchman Uncle Harry would like to grab Jerry, and it involves various conflicts involving a cheeky dog trader, an unlucky glazier and a distinct police cops.
