Eloá é uma mulher inteligente e ambiciosa, em busca de projeção social e profissional. Para tal, ela se empenha para se destacar na empresa de engenharia onde trabalha com o marido Osmar, a Fraga Dantas S.A. Osmar é um sujeito acomodado, sem grandes ambições, que não tem as mesmas perspectivas de ascensão que a mulher. Durante uma festa, Eloá, frustrada por não ter conseguido uma promoção, conhece o misterioso Raul. Ele lhe garante que poderá fazer com que ela cresça em seu trabalho. Eloá começa a se destacar profissionalmente e sua ascensão acompanha, de maneira inversa, a derrocada de Osmar, gerando uma crise em seu até então inabalável casamento.
