Araponga
A morte do senador Petrônio Paranhos (Paulo Gracindo) é o pontapé inicial. O político falece ao dar uma entrevista à jornalista Magali Santanna (Christiane Torloni), que está interessada em saber sobre o seu romance com a jovem Arlete, uma moça ambiciosa que está disposta a engravidar do velho congressista através da fertilização in vitro. Só que a morte do senador ocorre numa situação adversa. Magali aceita entrevistá-lo num quarto de motel, condição imposta por ele, e acaba ficando numa situação difícil, até porque, antes de morrer, o político tenta estuprá-la. Todos esses acontecimentos estão sendo investigados por Aristênio Catanduva, um detetive atrapalhado de codinome Araponga (Tarcísio Meira) que trabalha para a Polícia Federal, depois de muitos serviços prestados ao regime militar. Mas Araponga conserva as mesmas ideias e os mesmos hábitos do velho regime. Tanto que tenta convencer seus superiores da necessidade de reativar o Serviço Nacional de Informações (SNI), órgão da polícia política da ditadura. Araponga, que vigiava o senador falecido, começa a criar elos imaginários entre pessoas e situações. Suas ideias delirantes são reforçadas pelas mentiras do informante Tuca Maia (Taumaturgo Ferreira), um malandro que vai trabalhar no mesmo jornal que Magali.
