Sinopse: Século 19, aldeia de Póvoa do Varzim, região do Minho, Portugal. A menina Guida, após a morte do pai, foi viver com sua meia-irmã Clara, filha de sua madrasta. Com a morte da mãe de Clara, a educação das mocinhas ficou a cargo do Padre Antônio, o Senhor Reitor, que dedicou-se a cuidar das duas órfãs. Clara sempre foi mimada e orgulhosa. Já Guida nunca escondeu a tristeza de ter perdido o pai e a mãe desde criança. Clara é pura razão e Guida, bem diferente dela, é emotiva. O Padre Antônio se inspira na natureza para proteger suas pupilas, usando sua sabedoria para controlar as confusões em que as moças se metem.
