Sinopse: "1961" aborda os bastidores e a crise político-militar detonada pela renúncia em 25 de agosto de 1961 do presidente Jânio Quadros. Uma tentativa de golpe de Estado, liderada pelos três ministros militares, tentou impedir a posse constitucional do vice-presidente João Goulart, em viagem à China. Uma mobilização popular pró-Legalidade, liderada desde o Rio Grande do Sul pelo governador Leonel Brizola, e uma articulação político-parlamentar, em torno da adoção pelo Congresso Nacional do regime parlamentarista, evitaram a guerra civil e garantiram a posse de Jango em 7 de setembro de 1961.
