Twenty years ago, an operation causes pediatric trainees Fong Chung-yan and Hui Kam-fung to become foes. Now Chung-yan is a consultant pediatric surgeon at a top hospital. He and Kam-fung, who is employed by a second-tier hospital, meet up again due to a liver transplant operation. Chung-yan coaxes Kam-fung into joining his elite team. He even invites cardio-thoracic surgeon Cheung Yee-sum and Chief of Service, Surgery Mak Hoi-kei to pave the way for building a pediatrics center. Chung-yan and Kam-fung also gradually put their differences aside as they repeatedly play certain roles in touching and sometimes tragic stories about sick children. Meanwhile, pediatric surgeon Man Pak-hei and anesthesia trainee Lin Cheuk-ying find out that particular operation performed all those years ago was associated with some medical blunder. They wonder whether they should reveal the truth.

Island Son is a CBS television medical drama during its 1989-90 schedule. Island Son marked the return to regular weekly series television of Richard Chamberlain, who had not so appeared since his Dr. Kildare series almost 25 years earlier. In the interim he had enjoyed a somewhat successful career in feature films, and had become widely known as "The King of the Miniseries" due to his success in that format. Chamberlain once again portrayed a dedicated medical doctor, Dr. Daniel Kulani. Kulani was born in Hawaii and practiced on the mainland for many years prior to his return to work at the fictional Kamehameha Medical Center in Honolulu. Kulani's complicated life involved his stressful work environment; his adoptive parents, Tutu and Nana; his 18-year-old son, Sam; and his love interest, high school drama teacher Nina Delaney. Dr. Kulani's complicated life was never resolved to the satisfaction of the viewers because the program was canceled in March 1990.

Akira Akebono, a young boy who is competing in a robot tournament where many of the robots are capable of transforming into animal forms. Daigunder is the creation of Akira's father, Professor Hajime Akebono. Together with a girl named Haruka, they compete under the name of Team Akira. However, Team Akira faces opposition from not only their competition, but a robot named Ginzan who is under the control of the evil Professor Maelstrom. Created by Aeon and Takara and animated by Animation Studio Brain's Base, the series aired in TV Tokyo from April 2002 to December 2002.
