A história gira em torno da desumanização da cidade, de como o progresso descontrolado pode esmagar o ser humano. Conta a história de Lauro Fontana, um empresário megalomaníaco que quer construir o maior hotel do Brasil, o "Fontana Sky", e para isso precisa convencer os Camará, uma família misteriosa, a vender sua mansão, em Botafogo, no Rio de Janeiro, para que ele possa utilizar o imenso terreno para concretizar seu propósito. Junto, a história de Léo, um rapaz que defende a preservação da natureza e cujo destino cruza-se com o de Dora, uma jovem mãe solteira.
A história se passa em 1925, quando uma seca devastadora obriga as populações famintas do Nordeste a emigrar em busca da sobrevivência. Na novela, o destino é Ilhéus, no sul da Bahia, região em expansão graças ao plantio e comércio do cacau. Gabriela é uma das vítimas da seca. Moça de natureza livre e impulsiva, ela consegue trabalho como cozinheira na casa do turco Nacib, com quem vive uma sensual história de amor. Darna is a Philippine drama/fantasy series adapted from Mars Ravelo's fictional superheroine of the same name; directed by Dominic Zapata and Don Michael Perez and developed by Jun Lana. It is the third series based on the Darna graphic novels by Mars Ravelo. It stars Marian Rivera as the title role and her alter-ego Narda, with Iwa Moto as her main nemesis Valentina, also starring Dennis Trillo as Pancho and Mark Anthony Fernandez as Eduardo. The series had premiered on August 10, 2009 on GMA Network and ended on February 19, 2010, and also featured the return of the other four villains originally created by Ravelo himself.
